Kars begins major asphalt renewal on three main city arteries
Road works coordinated by the General Directorate of Highways' 18th Regional Directorate have started replacing the worn asphalt on Kars' three busiest streets – Cumhuriyet, Faikbey and İnönü. The project, launched under the direction of AK Party MP Adem Çalkın and supported by the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, involves removing old surfacing and laying down a new 6‑cm base layer topped with a 5‑cm wear layer of hot mix asphalt. Work proceeds in 200‑ to 400‑metre sections to keep traffic flowing, with each street being treated in turn. Officials say the upgraded roads will improve safety, comfort and long‑term durability for city residents.
MP Adem Çalkın emphasized that the upgrades are a “service matter, not a responsibility issue,” and noted that the Ministry’s instructions ensure continued support for both intercity and intra‑city road projects.
