Turkey expands hazelnut pest control to curb brown stink bug spread

The Düzce provincial agriculture directorate launched a province‑wide operation against the brown stink bug, treating about 72,000 abandoned buildings across eight districts and providing support packages to 7,500 hazelnut growers. The kits include pheromone traps, sticky devices, protective gear and plant‑protection products to help farmers protect their orchards.

In Samsun’s Çarşamba district, the local agriculture and forestry department warned growers of a sharp rise in brown stink bug numbers and the related “külleme” disease as temperatures climbed above seasonal norms. Authorities sent SMS alerts to farmers, urging prompt chemical or cultural measures and directing them to seek advice from provincial offices.
