Turkey continues brown marmorated stink bug control

Entities: brown marmorated stink bug · Çanakkale · Georgia · Brown marmorated stink bug · samurai wasp

Overview

Turkey’s integrated pest‑management programme against the brown marmorated stink bug, launched in 2025, has been expanded to 40 provinces. By early August 2026 the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry reported that 1.156 million samurai wasps – described in the statement as Vespa velutina – had already been released, with a target of 1.65 million for the year. The effort combines these parasitoids with winter‑site control actions in 859,329 households, distribution of pheromone traps, protective gear and limited chemical treatments for hazelnut growers.

International cooperation continues: 20,000 wasps were shipped to Azerbaijan for a joint release, and technical support is being provided for ongoing work in Georgia. Farmer education, informational brochures and two research projects – one on economic‑damage thresholds and another on optimizing chemical‑use limits – are also part of the plan. The wasp releases aim to protect hazelnuts and more than 300 other plant species from the invasive pest.
