Turkey expands mandatory vehicle safety equipment list, adds fines

Turkey has updated its traffic regulations to broaden the list of equipment that must be kept in every vehicle. In addition to the previously required fire extinguisher, reflector and first‑aid kit, drivers must now also carry pliers, a screwdriver, spare bulbs, a tire‑inflation kit, a tow rope, a jack and a lug wrench, among other items.

Failure to have any of the required items will be classified as a serious fault during the vehicle inspection and will result in an administrative fine of 1,246 Turkish lira. Authorities and safety experts are urging motorists, especially as summer approaches, to verify that all mandatory tools are present to improve response to fires, tyre issues and minor breakdowns.
