Turkey expands post‑earthquake housing and economic reforms

Minister Şimşek told AK Party MPs that inflation persists because of shelter, food and global factors, while noting a drop in rent inflation to 20 % and the start of house hand‑overs in the earthquake‑hit region. He announced accelerated social‑housing projects, credit and high‑technology transition packages, and a focus on defence and organised‑agriculture zones. Şimşek also said foreign firms will create about 70 000 jobs as they invest in Turkey.

Deputy President Cevdet Yılmaz highlighted the reconstruction of Elazığ after the 2020 and 2023 earthquakes, stating that more than 450 000 homes have been transferred to owners, with 34 000 housing rights granted and 40 000 dwellings completed. He cited rebuilt roads, infrastructure, industrial zones, hospitals and schools, and stressed the aim of a resilient, modern city model across all provinces. Yılmaz linked these efforts to broader goals of strengthening the internal front, eliminating terrorism costs and advancing the “Turkey Century” development plan.
