Turkey expands saffron production in Giresun and Nevşehir
Saffron production is expanding in various regions of Turkey, highlighting the crop's high economic value. In the Alucra district of Giresun, producer Dursun Kılıçkaya has successfully cultivated saffron at an altitude of 1,500 meters following five years of trial and observation. Kılıçkaya reported that dried saffron can be sold for up to 900,000 lira per kilogram, aiming to increase alternative agricultural opportunities in the area.
In the Avanos district of Nevşehir, a 60-decare field belonging to producer Ahmet Yiğit Kazanç has undergone harvest. This site is noted as Turkey's largest single-deed saffron production area. Local officials attended the harvest event, which aims to promote rural development and agricultural diversification through high-value crops often referred to as “red gold.”
