Turkey expands smoking cessation services in Ankara and Diyarbakır
New smoking cessation clinics have opened in Turkey to provide specialized support for different demographics. In Ankara’s Etlik City Hospital, a dedicated polyclinic has launched to assist pregnant women and those planning pregnancy. Rather than relying on medication, this unit focuses on motivational interviewing and psychological support to mitigate risks such as low birth weight, premature birth, and developmental issues in infants.
In Diyarbakır’s Kocaköy district, the Kocaköy State Hospital has also opened a smoking cessation clinic under the coordination of the Diyarbakır Provincial Health Directorate. This facility offers comprehensive assessments, behavioral support, and pharmacological treatments where medically necessary. The initiative aims to provide professional guidance and sustainable cessation processes to help citizens combat cardiovascular, respiratory, and cancer risks associated with tobacco use.
