Turkey expands wildlife rehab and eco‑friendly mosquito control

Antalya’s Natural Life Park operates a fully equipped clinic that treats injured and orphaned wildlife. Veterinarians and animal‑health technicians care for a range of birds and mammals, including eagles, meadowlarks, swallows and a stork, feeding and monitoring them until they can be released back into their natural habitats. Dr. Aygül Arsun said, “We treat the animals like our own children.”

In the Gediz Delta, a 40,000‑hectare wetland in İzmir, municipal authorities are battling mosquitoes with biological larvicides that target only mosquito larvae, leaving birds, fish, reptiles and plants unharmed. The programme uses drones to apply the treatment across hard‑to‑reach areas, protecting public health while preserving the ecosystem. Buse Atik noted, “Gediz Delta is an important wetland for both Turkey and Europe.”
