Turkey anticipates record 140 million ton agricultural production
Turkey is anticipating a record-breaking year for agricultural production. Minister of Agriculture and Forestry İbrahim Yumaklı stated that total plant production is expected to reach approximately 140 million tons, driven largely by significant increases in fruit and grain yields. Specifically, grain production is projected to rise to 41.6 million tons, with wheat and barley seeing substantial growth due to above-average rainfall.
In the Konya Ovası region, the harvest of barley and wheat has been completed. Hüseyin Çevik, President of the Konya Commodity Exchange, noted that rainfall levels were 50% higher than the previous year, significantly boosting yields. In some irrigated areas, production reached nearly 1,200 kilograms per decare.
To support the sector, the Ministry is distributing 195.6 million lira in agricultural support payments to farmers. Additionally, infrastructure investments are underway, including a 2.67 billion lira irrigation project in Edirne designed to bring water to 56,500 decares of farmland through the Çömlekköy Dam Irrigation Project.
