Turkey expects record wheat harvest amid shifting global grain markets

Increased rainfall in Turkey has led to expectations of a record wheat harvest, with yields projected to reach 24.5 million tons. This follows a 76% increase in precipitation compared to the previous year.

Eren Günhan Ulusoy, Eurasia President of the International Association of Millers and Grain Merchants (IAOM), noted that while extreme drought affects European yields, Turkey’s production capacity is strengthening its position in regional markets. Turkey has maintained its status as the world's leading flour exporter for 11 years, holding a 23% share of global flour trade with an annual production capacity of 32 million tons.

Global grain markets remain sensitive due to the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine. Ulusoy highlighted that attacks on port infrastructure and logistics in the Black Sea region have increased market risks, as both nations are critical to global wheat supply.

The 5th IAOM Eurasia Conference and Exhibition is scheduled to take place for the first time in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, on September 28-29, bringing together over 1,000 industry professionals from across the globe.
