Turkey extradites 657 fugitives from 44 countries in early 2026

During the first eight months of 2026, Turkey extradited 657 individuals from 44 different countries. This represents a 207 percent increase compared to the same period in 2025, when 214 individuals were returned from 37 countries.

Of the 657 people returned this year, 162 were identified as leaders or members of organized crime groups. Additionally, Turkish authorities apprehended 409 individuals within the country who were wanted by 53 different nations, including 90 members of organized crime groups.

Interior Minister Mustafa Çiftçi has emphasized ongoing efforts to locate and extradite fugitives. Currently, 3,852 individuals remain wanted under Interpol red notices or similar international warrants. These include 1,400 for public order offenses, 718 for smuggling and organized crime, 898 for narcotics, and 836 for terrorism-related crimes.
