COP31 summit to be held in Antalya, Turkey in 2026

Turkey is preparing to host the COP31 climate summit in Antalya from November 9 to 20, 2026. Minister Murat Kurum has already announced the COP31 Action Agenda at the United Nations, drawing significant international media attention from outlets such as Reuters and The Guardian. To support the summit's technological needs, Türk Telekom has joined as the Master Partner and Global Digital Transformation and Technology supporter, pledging to provide the necessary fiber and mobile infrastructure.

In preparation for the summit, regional efforts are underway, including planned scientific events at Van Yüzüncü Yıl University to address climate impacts and the protection of the Van Lake basin. Additionally, a Climate School is being established in Antalya.

However, environmental concerns persist. An association has raised alarms regarding the removal of forest lands in Ankara from official boundaries, claiming these areas include important oak forests and water catchment zones for the capital. Furthermore, investigative reports have highlighted high methane emissions from waste sites in Silivri and Şile, contrasting with Turkey's official climate goals.
