Turkey weather warnings issued for heavy rain and flooding

Turkey is facing widespread severe weather conditions, with meteorology officials issuing warnings for heavy rainfall, storms, and potential flooding across numerous provinces. In Istanbul, AFAD has issued a red code warning for October 17–18, as officials warn of potential landslides and transport disruptions. Minister Murat Kurum noted that urbanization near watercourses has exacerbated the impact of recent flooding in the city.

In Sakarya's Karasu district, the Darıçayırı neighborhood has been submerged for the fourth time in five months following intense rainfall and dam overflows, with water levels exceeding 50 centimeters. Due to the expected weather, governorates in Istanbul and Kocaeli have postponed certain educational and examination activities. Authorities continue to warn citizens of risks in various regions, including the Marmara, Aegean, Mediterranean, and Central Anatolia.
