Turkey fires in Konya and Mardin cause injuries and one fatality

A fire broke out in the cultivated fields of Akkise Mahallesi in Ahırlı district, Konya, early on a Saturday. Firefighters and Ahırlı Municipality crews responded quickly, preventing the blaze from spreading to neighboring areas. Mayor Ali Üzlük praised the teams and warned residents to avoid careless use of fire and cigarettes, noting that the crops were close to harvest.

In a separate incident near Durakbaşı and Yeniköy neighborhoods of Mardin's Nusaybin district, a fire ignited on a mine‑laden site. Firefighters struggled to approach the flames, and while attaching a hose, volunteer firefighter Ö. K. was trapped under a moving fire engine and suffered severe injuries. He was taken to Nusaybin State Hospital, where he later died despite medical efforts. Authorities have opened an investigation into the accident.
