Turkey focuses on electrification ahead of COP31
As Turkey prepares to host COP31 in November 2026, discussions regarding energy transition and electrification are intensifying. Experts from the SHURA Energy Transition Center have highlighted the critical role of electrification in shifting energy needs from fossil fuels to electric-powered technologies in sectors such as transportation, buildings, and industry.
To ensure this transition effectively reduces emissions, it is essential that the electricity used is generated from renewable sources. Key policy priorities for Turkey include expanding production capacity, improving grid infrastructure, enhancing system flexibility, and increasing energy efficiency. Electrification is viewed as a fundamental component for achieving energy security and economic competitiveness during the transition process.
