Turkey outlines strategic economic and industrial development goals

Turkish leadership and economic officials have outlined strategic goals for national development and macroeconomic stability. President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan emphasized the commencement of the ‘Turkey Century’ project, asserting that the nation has established a strong foundation across sectors including defense, technology, health, and agriculture.

In support of these long-term goals, a new Public Investment Program circular has been issued for the 2024-2028 period. The directive prioritizes fiscal discipline, inflation reduction, and savings in public spending, while directing resources toward high-value infrastructure and social needs that complement private sector investments.

On the economic front, Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek noted that service exports and strong production are supporting the external balance, with the current account deficit reaching an annualized $40.7 billion in July. He highlighted ongoing efforts to strengthen high-tech and value-added production to enhance global competitiveness.

Additionally, the Ankara Chamber of Industry (ASO) hosted a diplomatic reception to foster economic cooperation between the business community and foreign missions. Industry and Technology Minister Mehmet Fatih Kacır also spoke at the GITEX Ai event, highlighting Turkey’s aim to ascend the global high-technology value chain through innovation and its growing defense industry capabilities.
