Turkey Economy Coordination Board addresses fund liquidations

The Economy Coordination Board held its eighth meeting of 2026 to address human capital, labor market policies, and revisions to balance of payments statistics. During the session, officials highlighted that Turkey has improved its performance across all areas in the PISA 2025 results, making it the only OECD country to show such progress over the last decade.

A major focus of the meeting was the ongoing liquidation of problematic investment funds. Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz reported that the number of funds in the liquidation process has dropped from 131 to 65. Ziraat Bank has completed liquidations totaling approximately 40.8 billion TL for over 45,000 individuals across 66 funds.

To ensure a fair and transparent process, a new legislative proposal is currently on the agenda of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey. This law aims to facilitate extraordinary liquidations and provide legal safeguards for investors. Once the law is passed, interim payments to investors are expected to begin immediately. Additionally, the board discussed new regulatory drafts intended to strengthen oversight and increase the deterrent effect of sanctions within the capital markets.
