Turkey grain exports reach $6.9 billion in seven months
Turkey's grain and cereal sector exports reached $6.9 billion in the first seven months of the year, according to the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TIM). This represents a significant increase in trade value, driven by products such as sunflower oil, pasta, wheat flour, chocolate, and cocoa-based goods.
Sunflower oil emerged as the sector's most exported product, reaching $769.3 million, a 21.2% increase compared to the same period last year. Iraq and the United States were identified as the primary export markets, accounting for $855.9 million and $538.5 million respectively.
Nihat Uysallı, Chairman of the TIM Cereals, Legumes, Oilseeds and Products Sector Board, noted that the global agricultural trade is navigating a complex period marked by climate anomalies, geopolitical tensions, and logistical bottlenecks. He highlighted that El Nino and extreme heat in major producing nations like the US, France, Germany, and Australia have lowered harvest expectations, while disruptions in the Black Sea region have impacted shipment speeds and increased freight costs.
