Istanbul heatwave continues, rain expected early July

The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality’s Disaster and Risk Management Department (AKOM) forecast temperatures of 30‑33 °C for the first week of July 2026, with strong north‑easterly (poyraz) winds expected to moderate the heat. A shift to cooler, partly cloudy and light rain is predicted for Friday, 3 July, with rainfall of 2‑5 kg m⁻² and temperatures falling to a high of 28 °C and a low of 21 °C.

Across central Turkey, the Meteorology 3rd Regional Directorate reported that Eskişehir will stay above 30 °C throughout the week, reaching up to 31 °C in most districts. Notably, temperatures will vary by up to 11 °C between districts, with Mihalgazi and Sarıcakaya expected to hit 36 °C, while Han and Mihalıççık will see lows around 25 °C. No significant weather changes or rain are expected in the region.

Both agencies warned that while the heat will persist, the upcoming rain in Istanbul will bring brief relief before temperatures rise again later in the week.
