Manisa highway crash kills 11 and injures 27 after bus hits truck

A major traffic accident on the Gebze-Orhangazi-Izmir Highway in Manisa province, Turkey, resulted in at least 11 deaths and 27 injuries on Sunday morning. The collision involved a tour bus traveling from Bursa toward Izmir and a tow truck near the Akhisar toll booths.

Preliminary investigations and video evidence suggest the bus driver attempted a reverse maneuver on the highway after missing the Akhisar junction. The impact caused the tour bus to overturn and the truck to go off the road. Among the 27 injured, authorities reported 16 were categorized as yellow code, 9 as green code, and 1 as red code.

Emergency response teams, including AFAD, firefighters, and medical crews, were deployed to the scene. Following medical treatment, the bus driver and several other suspects, including the truck driver, were detained by police. The identities of the deceased, most of whom were between the ages of 58 and 88, have been released to their families.
