Traffic accidents and safety concerns in Turkey

Turkey continues to report a series of fatal and injurious traffic accidents across multiple regions.

In Manisa, a motorcyclist died after being struck from behind by a car, an incident that also caused minor injuries to three occupants of the vehicle, including an infant. In Trabzon, two separate accidents occurred: a head-on collision resulting from improper overtaking left eight people injured, including five children, while a truck driver was killed when their vehicle veered into a stream bed.

Recent reports highlight further tragedies and legal developments. In Burdur, a 26-year-old man died when his motorcycle struck a parked truck shortly before his scheduled wedding. In Manavgat, a taxi driver received 51,000 TL in fines and a 26-month license suspension after running a red light and colliding with a motorcycle, which injured the rider.

Legal disputes have also emerged following a crash in Niğde that killed two teenagers; the family of one victim is appealing a court decision, citing “insufficient sentencing” for an unlicensed driver. Meanwhile, in Nevşehir, residents are demanding the installation of speed bumps following frequent accidents at a local intersection. Other incidents include collisions in Kırıkkale and Antalya, the latter involving a taxi that ran a red light.

Newer reports indicate further fatalities in Şanlıurfa, where a crash resulted in two deaths, including a child, and two serious injuries. Safety concerns have also extended to infrastructure and aviation; in Istanbul’s Karaköy district, pedestrians are reportedly bypassing underpasses and jumping barriers to take shorter routes, creating risks. Additionally, a collision involving ground service vehicles from Çelebi and TGS occurred at Antalya Airport, following a similar incident in August.
