Overview
Turkey continues to report a series of fatal and injurious traffic accidents across multiple regions. Recent fatalities include Ali Can Özçimen in Şanlıurfa, who died in intensive care following a crash on GAP Boulevard, and 20-year-old Ramazan Yılmaz in Konya’s Beyşehir district, who died after his vehicle struck a tree. In Konya’s Altınekin district, 24-year-old Berkay Koyuncuoğlu died after his vehicle plunged into a roadside ditch.
Fatalities and injuries have also been reported in Şanlıurfa, where a crash killed two people, including a child, and in Trabzon, where a car plunged 7 meters down a retaining wall into a stream, injuring five people. In Gaziantep’s Nurdağı district, two separate accidents involving a car collision and a truck rollover injured 21 people. Other significant incidents include a prison transfer vehicle overturning in Sivas, injuring seven, and a collision in Çorum that caused a vehicle to catch fire. In Antalya’s Gazipaşa district, a panel van struck a lighting pole and a greenhouse, injuring the driver.
Legal and regulatory issues persist. In Alanya, a motorcycle accident has prompted residents to demand improved signaling near school routes. Regarding the major collision on the Gebze-Orhangazi-Izmir Highway near the Akhisar toll booths in Manisa, which resulted in at least 11 deaths and 26–27 injuries, legal proceedings are ongoing. An expert report identified the tour bus driver, M. A., as the primary party at fault for attempting a reverse maneuver, while the truck driver, H. K., was found to be exceeding the speed limit. Both drivers have been arrested.
