Turkey hosts Global Women’s Summit and Local Governance Conference
Turkey hosted the Global Women’s Summit in Istanbul, marking the return of the event after 15 years. Minister of Family and Social Services Mahinur Özdemir Göktaş opened the summit, stressing that women’s empowerment is central to economic development and citing the 2024‑2028 Women’s Empowerment Strategy.
In parallel, the Democratic Local Governance Women Conference was held in the Ali Emiri Conference Hall, organized by Artı Gerçek and the Democratic Local Governance Board. Speakers including Neslihan Şedal of the South‑East Anatolia Municipalities Union and Çiğdem Kılıçgün Uçar of the Democratic Regions Party highlighted women’s leadership in local administration, dual‑leadership models, and the link between gender equality and broader democratic reforms.
