Turkey hosts youth initiatives for green recreation and domestic travel

Various initiatives in Turkey are promoting youth engagement through travel and environmental awareness. An Erasmus+ KA152 Youth Exchange Project, coordinated by Istanbul University-Cerrahpasa, recently brought together Turkish and Bulgarian students to focus on green recreation and sustainable living. The program encouraged participants to engage in screen-free leisure activities, including nature walks, rowing, yoga, and archery, to strengthen their connection with nature and foster intercultural learning.

Separately, the Turkish Ministry of Youth and Sports reported significant success with its ‘Seyahatsever’ (Traveler) Project. Designed to encourage young people to explore Turkey’s historical and cultural heritage, the initiative provided free accommodation in government dormitories across 81 provinces. During the 2026 summer period, 104,771 young people utilized the program. Since its inception in 2022, a total of 628,241 youths have benefited from free stays in state dormitories through this project.
