Turkey implements new animal protection measures and regulations

In Ordu, Turkey, the Provincial Animal Protection Board met under the leadership of Governor Muammer Erol to review activities conducted under Law No. 5199. Ersin Çakır, Branch Manager of Nature Conservation and National Parks, reported that seven natural life areas have been completed and are operational in districts including Altınordu, Fatsa, Gölköy, Kabadüz, Korgan, Kumru, and Ünye. Additionally, the capacity of the animal shelter in Altınordu has been increased from 500 to 700.

Separately, the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry has reinforced regulations regarding the sale of dogs. Under current implementation rules, businesses selling dogs are required to verify that the buyer's residence allows for pet ownership. This includes obtaining approval from the apartment manager and reviewing the building's management plan. Sellers must also report dog and cat sales to provincial or district directorates within five days. Businesses failing to comply with these documentation or safety requirements face administrative fines of 4,344 Turkish Liras per animal.
