Turkey Implements New Mandatory Traffic Insurance Rules Effective July 2026

The Insurance and Private Pension Regulation and Supervision Authority (SEDDK) has amended the General Conditions of the Compulsory Motor Vehicle Liability Insurance. The changes, published in the Official Gazette on 12 June, will come into force on 1 July 2026 and affect roughly 34 million vehicle owners.

Key provisions include automatic calculation of post‑accident value‑loss compensation based on make, age, damage extent and prior claims, and mandatory replacement with original parts when a damaged component cannot be repaired. Insurers must inform claimants of the amount via SMS, mobile apps or e‑Government platforms. Additional reforms cover pert‑vehicle documentation, expanded health‑care coverage for treatment and caregiver expenses, and stricter rules on leaving accident scenes. The overhaul aims to increase transparency and speed up reimbursement for policyholders.
