Turkey enacts law to facilitate PKK disarmament and camp evacuations
Turkey has implemented Law No. 7595 on Strengthening National Solidarity and Social Integration, marking a significant step in the 'Terror-Free Turkey' initiative aimed at the dissolution of the PKK.
A Monitoring and Evaluation Board, led by Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz, has been established to coordinate legal processes and oversee the disarmament phase. The process involves a security mechanism coordinated with Iraq, the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), and Syria.
Key objectives include the evacuation of PKK camps and caves, such as Kandil, Zap, and Metina, by October 1. Approximately 3,800 militants across 18 camps are expected to surrender. Weapon surrender points have been designated in several Iraqi districts, including Amediye, Kani Masi, Binar, Koye, Ranya, and Seyid Sadık. Following the evacuation, Iraqi Border Guards and Peshmerga forces are expected to secure these areas.
The Turkish National Intelligence Organization (MİT) is tasked with conducting field inspections to verify the evacuation of 72 specific sites and documenting all surrendered weapons, including firearms, ammunition, and drones.
