Turkey introduces new eco-design and energy efficiency standards

The Turkish Ministry of Industry and Technology has introduced new regulations aimed at increasing energy efficiency and promoting eco-design in consumer electronics, aligning with European Union legislation.

New standards have been established for external power supplies, wireless chargers, portable battery chargers, and USB Type-C cables. These regulations define technical parameters, product information requirements, and the use of a common charger logo. While most consumer electronics are covered, exceptions include uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), emergency lighting, medical-specific power sources, and autonomous charging stations. The technical design mandates for these products are set to take effect on December 14, 2028.

Additionally, new rules for household tumble dryers will introduce a repairability index to energy labels. Tumble dryers will be classified from 'A' (most repairable) to 'E' (least repairable) based on criteria such as disassembly depth, required tools, and access to repair information. This information will be displayed via a specific pictogram on energy labels. Suppliers must provide these new labels starting January 1, 2027, though voluntary adoption is permitted before that date.
