Turkish environmental and energy regulatory updates
Overview
Turkey has implemented new regulatory frameworks across different sectors to enhance environmental management and product efficiency.
In the environmental sector, the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change introduced regulations for environmental management and consultancy services. These rules mandate specific service frequencies for businesses based on their classification and establish a minimum price period for consultancy fees linked to the net minimum wage. Consultancy firms must now obtain Professional Competence Certificates and are required to report any business non-compliance to authorities if violations are not addressed within 30 days.
Simultaneously, the Ministry of Industry and Technology introduced eco-design and energy efficiency standards for consumer electronics to align with European Union legislation. These standards cover external power supplies, wireless chargers, and USB Type-C cables, with technical mandates set to take effect in late 2028. Furthermore, new rules for household tumble dryers will introduce a repairability index, ranging from ‘A’ to ‘E’, which must be displayed on energy labels starting in 2027.
