Turkey investment fund crisis triggers widespread liquidity shortage
Turkey is facing a significant investment fund crisis that has triggered widespread liquidity shortages. Since mid-September 2026, an estimated 455,758 individuals have been directly affected by the inability to access funds totaling approximately 20 billion dollars.
The crisis has forced many investors and small businesses to liquidate other assets to meet immediate obligations such as rent, salaries, and debts. This has led to increased activity in the gold and automotive sectors, as citizens sell jewelry and vehicles to obtain urgent cash.
In response, the Fund Coordination Board held its second meeting, chaired by the Vice President, to discuss payment schedules and calculation methods for net investment amounts following decisions by the Capital Markets Board. The economic tension is also raising concerns regarding market velocity and the ability to meet future social security and wage expectations.
