Turkey investment funds face liquidation and regulatory shifts

The Capital Markets Board of Turkey (SPK) has implemented significant changes regarding investment funds, including the decision to liquidate 131 funds belonging to seven portfolio management companies. This move affects approximately 455,758 individual investors. Following these decisions, the SPK announced that owners of certain buy-sell instructions canceled via TEFAS would be paid from liquidation balances based on their participation shares.

DEVA Party officials have responded to these developments with criticisms of the current economic management. Party representatives, including Burak Sel and Osman Yılmaz, emphasized that financial market stability relies on predictability and clear rules rather than just the existence of legislation. They argued that the recent volatility highlights the need for strong institutional capacity and crisis management.

Furthermore, party members have called for greater independence for key economic institutions, specifically the Central Bank, the SPK, and the Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency (BDDK). They contend that these bodies must operate independently of political will to ensure long-term institutional trust and market stability.
