Turkey issues heavy rain warning for Trabzon and cold snap alert for Istanbul

The Turkish State Meteorological Service has issued a local heavy‑rain warning for the interior of the Trabzon province and surrounding areas, including Gümüşhane, Giresun, Rize districts and parts of the Eastern Black Sea region. Expected precipitation of 21‑50 kg/m² could cause flash floods, landslides, lightning strikes, hail and strong winds. The rain is forecast to begin around midday on 10 June and continue until the morning of 11 June, with authorities urging residents in higher‑lying zones to take precautions.

Separately, the General Directorate of Meteorology (AKOM) warned that Istanbul will feel the effect of a cold, wet air mass moving north from the Balkans. Temperatures are projected to drop sharply by 3‑5 °C on Saturday, 13 June, falling below seasonal norms and bringing local thunderstorms and showers. Daily highs are expected between 16 °C and 25 °C, with windy conditions from the north‑west at 10‑35 km/h. Residents are advised to be prepared for sudden temperature changes and associated precipitation.
