Turkey issued widespread thunderstorm and heavy rain warnings
The Turkish Meteorology General Directorate forecast thunderstorm and heavy rain across much of the country for June 11‑12, 2026. Expected conditions include local downpours with lightning in the west (Thrace, Marmara), the interior of the Aegean, the Mediterranean coast, Central Anatolia, the Eastern Black Sea region and the northeastern part of Eastern Anatolia. Temperatures will range from the high 20s °C in Istanbul and Ankara to the mid‑30s °C in the southeast.
Wind gusts are expected to reach 40‑60 km/h, especially in Eastern Anatolia, raising the risk of falling trees, roof damage and reduced visibility for drivers. Authorities warned of flash floods, landslides, and lightning strikes, urging residents to avoid low‑lying areas, stay away from watercourses, and observe traffic safety measures. No rain is forecast for Istanbul or İzmir, but heavy precipitation will affect cities such as Edirne, Bursa, Çanakkale, Adana, Hatay, Konya, Kars and Erzurum.
