Turkey launches AI-driven vehicle inspection model center in Istanbul

Turkey is preparing for a new vehicle inspection era beginning August 15, 2027, under the TURKA project. To facilitate this transition, a Vehicle Inspection Model Center has been established in Istanbul to test next-generation technologies.

The center, spanning 2,500 square meters, utilizes artificial intelligence-supported imaging, contactless measurement systems, robotic equipment, and centralized data management. Current testing involves two heavy vehicle and three passenger vehicle lines, employing laser and sensor systems for contactless tire measurement and underbody scanning.

The project is designed for a 20-year operating period and aims to service Turkey’s fleet of 34.5 million vehicles, which generates approximately 16 million inspections annually. The infrastructure will consist of 352 centers, including 249 fixed and 103 mobile units, with roughly 900 inspection lines. International media coverage has highlighted the role of partners like the US-based Opus Group in providing AI and laser technology for this large-scale digital transformation.
