Turkey ramps up pesticide spraying to curb insects and disease vectors

Municipal authorities across Turkey have intensified pesticide and vector‑control operations as summer temperatures rise. The Didim municipality reports daily city‑wide spraying of insects and mosquitoes using its own staff and equipment. Manisa Metropolitan Büyükşehir Belediyesi has deployed 20 vehicles and 30 personnel to conduct round‑the‑clock spraying in all 17 districts, especially in Alaşehir. In Ankara, the State Railways (TCDD) announced a large‑scale chemical spraying programme on the Sivas‑Kayseri, Sivas‑Divriği and Sivas‑Samsun railway corridors from 24 June to 10 July 2026, prohibiting livestock grazing, hay‑cutting and beekeeping within a 15‑day safety zone. Mamak district officials similarly carry out regular insecticide applications in parks, waste‑container areas and larval sites. Residents of Bayındır have called for increased municipal spraying, citing a surge in flies and pests during the heat wave.

These coordinated actions aim to protect public health by reducing vector‑borne disease risks and improving the comfort of citizens during the peak summer season.
