Turkey: Legislative proposals for gradual retirement reach Parliament
Millions of workers in Turkey who were excluded from the previous EYT retirement regulation are seeking a gradual retirement system. The demand is particularly high among those who began their social security coverage after September 8, 1999, specifically those with insurance entries between 2000 and 2008.
Proponents are requesting that retirement age and premium day requirements be adjusted incrementally based on the specific date of employment commencement. While no official law has been enacted as of August 2026, legislative proposals and written parliamentary inquiries regarding the matter have been submitted to the Grand National Assembly of Turkey. These proposals aim to establish a gradual transition for workers, civil servants, and contracted personnel, though they must still pass through commission and General Assembly processes to become law.
