Turkey levies steep fines on motorcyclists for illegal exhausts and plate tampering

In Aksaray, a 19‑year‑old rider who removed his motorcycle's license plate and fitted an oversized exhaust was caught after provoking traffic police. Authorities imposed a total fine of 62,000 Turkish lira, suspended his driver's licence for one month and barred the bike from traffic for the same period.

In Manavgat, Antalya Province, a 14‑year‑old who covered his motorcycle’s plate with cloth was stopped by traffic police. The bike’s owner faced penalties totalling 182,719 Turkish lira for allowing an unlicensed minor to ride, the plate concealment, and the lack of a rear‑view mirror. The motorcycle was seized and removed from the road.

Both cases demonstrate Turkish traffic enforcement agencies’ willingness to impose substantial financial penalties and temporary bans on motorcycles involved in illegal modifications or underage operation.
