Turkey lifts dowry aid to 141,000 lira and furniture market offers deep discounts for newlyweds

In July, Turkey’s Social Security Institution (SGK) raised the one‑time dowry assistance for women who receive a survivor pension and marry, increasing the payment to a maximum of 141,312 lira. The increase coincided with a rise in the base pension to 23,552 lira and also includes a “marriage premium” of 12 months’ pension for relatives of deceased civil servants. Eligible applicants must continue to receive the pension at the time of marriage and submit a request to the SGK regional directorates within five years.

Meanwhile, furniture merchants in Istanbul’s Yenibosna district launched a limited‑time promotion for couples preparing for marriage. The campaign offers complete home‑furnishing packages at prices up to 40 % below market rates, with a typical bundle reduced from 140,000 lira to 99,000 lira, and similar discounts on white‑goods sets. Merchants say the initiative is intended to ease the budgeting burden of newlyweds.
