Turkey literacy campaign helps over 471,000 women learn to read and write

Since the launch of the Literacy Mobilization directive in February 2018, Turkey has seen significant progress in adult education. Under the patronage of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Emine Erdoğan, the initiative aims to provide literacy skills, basic arithmetic, and citizenship knowledge to citizens, specifically guiding them toward second-level adult literacy courses to reach primary school education levels.

Data from the Ministry of National Education indicates that since 2018, approximately 1.96 million people have participated in these courses, with 1.017 million successfully completing them and receiving certification. Notably, 471,734 women have learned to read and write through this program. In the past year alone, 141,529 participants joined the courses, including 100,003 women.
