Turkey maintains position as Europe's sixth largest auto market
Turkey remains Europe's sixth largest automobile market despite a significant decline in sales. According to data from the European Automobile Manufacturers' Association (ACEA) and the Automotive Distributors and Mobility Association (ODMD), Turkey recorded 627,977 vehicle sales during the January-September period of 2026. This places the country behind Germany, the United Kingdom, Italy, France, and Spain.
In the electric vehicle (EV) sector, Turkey holds the sixth position in Europe with 120,329 full electric car sales. However, Turkey was the only country in the region to experience a contraction in EV sales, seeing a 9.1 percent decrease.
On a brand level, September data from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) shows a shift in market rankings. Renault led new vehicle registrations in September with a 16.1 percent market share. The domestic electric vehicle manufacturer Togg rose to second place with a 9.8 percent share, overtaking Volkswagen and Hyundai. Tesla fell outside the top ten brands for new registrations in the country during this period.
