Turkey economic indicators show rising consumer confidence amid industrial challenges

Turkey is experiencing mixed economic indicators across its industrial and consumer sectors. According to TÜİK, the Consumer Confidence Index rose by 1% in August to 90.8, the highest level since May 2023. However, manufacturing capacity utilization fell to 73.5%, and political figures like Sedat Yalçın noted that while confidence is improving, production strength has not yet matched this trend.

The automotive sector shows a complex picture. While the automotive supply industry saw an increase in exports to $9.47 billion in the first seven months of 2026, overall production fell by 8.1%. TAYSAD President Yakup Birinci highlighted that rising labor and operational costs are challenging international competitiveness.

Toyota Turkey is facing supply constraints. CEO Ali Haydar Bozkurt stated that while the market potential exceeds 100,000 units, global vehicle allocation quotas have limited their ability to meet demand, contributing to a decline in market share from 11.5% in January to 5.4% in June. Meanwhile, the broader industrial landscape is shifting, with experts noting new opportunities for Turkish manufacturers to integrate into flexible global supply chains due to their geographic location.
