Turkey mine explosion investigation leads to four arrests

An investigation into a methane gas explosion at a mine in the Gelik district of Kilimli, Zonguldak, has resulted in four arrests. The explosion, which occurred on October 23, killed three miners and injured five others, two of whom were reported to be in serious condition.

The latest arrest involves the facility manager, Mustafa K., who was apprehended in Ankara and subsequently detained via video link. He joins a company official, an occupational health and safety specialist, and a mining engineer, all of whom have been arrested on charges of "conscious negligence resulting in death and injury."

Labor representatives have criticized the incident, noting that Turkey leads Europe in fatal occupational accidents. They have called for increased public oversight, better use of technology in mining, and stricter enforcement of safety regulations to prevent similar tragedies.
