Turkey Ministry of Trade issues 1.87 billion TL in fines

Turkey’s Ministry of Trade has released significant market oversight data and a new draft regulation for the e-commerce sector. Between January and July 2026, the Ministry inspected 282,153 firms and over 34 million products, issuing a total of 1.874 billion TL in administrative fines. Key enforcement areas included price gouging, which accounted for approximately 400 million TL in fines, as well as the automotive, real estate, and jewelry sectors.

In the realm of advertising, the Advertising Board has issued 218.4 million TL in fines during the first eight months of 2026 to combat deceptive marketing and unfair commercial practices. Recent enforcement actions targeted companies that suppressed consumer reviews without justification and those using fake business names or addresses on food delivery platforms to create the illusion of multiple independent establishments.

A new draft regulation aims to reshape e-commerce by increasing competition and consumer protection. Proposed rules include mandatory compensation mechanisms for lost or damaged shipments, which must be clearly defined in marketplace contracts. Additionally, large e-commerce platforms will be required to allow sellers to transfer their data—including product descriptions, images, and customer reviews—to competing platforms free of charge. The regulation also seeks to prevent unfair competition by restricting the use of competitors' registered trademarks in search engine advertising without prior authorization.
