Turkey mushroom season increases with autumn rains
As autumn rains and cooling temperatures arrive in Turkey, the mushroom season is becoming more active. In October, species such as kanlıca (Saffron milk cap), çıntar (Morel), and certain types of oyster mushrooms are particularly prominent.
The timing of mushroom growth varies by region depending on temperature, rainfall, altitude, and forest structure. While some mushrooms are commonly found in pine forests, others grow on tree trunks or woody surfaces.
Experts warn against consuming wild mushrooms based solely on color, shape, or folk wisdom. Common myths—such as the idea that boiling, salting, or observing insect behavior can neutralize toxins—are unreliable. Consuming unidentified wild mushrooms can lead to symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and dizziness.
