Turkey's Climate Minister Murat Kurum drives COP31 agenda at Bonn talks

Turkey’s Environment, Urbanisation and Climate Change Minister Murat Kurum attended the UN‑run Bonn Climate Conference, holding bilateral meetings with UNFCCC Executive Secretary Simon Stiell, Australia’s Climate and Energy Minister Chris Bowen, and senior UN officials. He stressed the need to accelerate clean‑energy transition, uphold the 1.5 °C target and prepare concrete, measurable actions for the upcoming COP31 in Antalya. Kurum announced that “Yarın COP31 Eylem Gündemi'nin ana çerçevesini paylaşacağız” – the main framework of the COP31 action agenda will be presented the next day.

In parallel, the COP Women Antalya forum, co‑organized by Muratpaşa Municipality and the Social Climate Association, gathered civil‑society representatives to discuss women’s role in climate policy, local needs and solutions, aiming to feed grassroots demands into the COP31 negotiations.

These meetings underline Turkey’s push for transparent, inclusive climate diplomacy and its effort to align international negotiations with local stakeholder input ahead of the 2026 COP31 summit.
