Turkey overhauls traffic insurance: depreciation claims merged, fault‑determination system added
On 1 July 2026, Turkey’s regulator SEDDK published a new mandatory traffic‑insurance regulation in the Official Gazette. The amendment eliminates the separate application for vehicle depreciation loss; the same damage claim now includes depreciation. Experts assigned to a claim must calculate the depreciation amount, and insurers must inform the insured of the payout within the first business day. The rules also broaden the use of original spare parts when repair is impossible.
The decree also creates fault‑determination commissions and obliges insurers to send claim and contract information to the Insurance Information and Supervision Center (SBM) in real time. Data‑reporting duties begin 1 August 2026, with daily updates of loss amounts and instantaneous transmission of contract details. The reforms aim to streamline procedures, increase transparency and reduce bureaucracy for motorists and insurers.
