Turkey plans military expansion and base in Saudi Arabia
According to the Turkish newspaper Hürriyet, Turkey's Ministry of National Defense is preparing a new defense strategy aimed at addressing global security challenges and expanding its military presence in Africa and Asia. The strategy includes planning for large-scale warfare and developing enhanced logistical support and supply lines.
A key component involves the potential establishment of a Turkish military base in Saudi Arabia, following a model similar to Turkey's existing structure in Qatar. This initiative aims to strengthen deterrence, training, and advisory support for Saudi forces. Additionally, the Mecca Defense Agreement proposes cooperation between Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Pakistan in defense industries, military training, weapons production, technology transfer, and intelligence sharing.
Regarding Libya, Turkey is considering a plan to unify the country's military structures into a single army with a joint command. This two-phase approach involves military unification followed by political reconciliation. Proposed leadership roles include Abdul Hamid Dbeibah remaining as Prime Minister and Khalifa Haftar being appointed as Chief of General Staff.
