Turkey military expansion and regional strategy

Overview

Turkey is reportedly developing a new defense strategy through its Ministry of National Defense to address global security challenges and expand its military presence in Africa and Asia. This strategy focuses on preparing the Turkish Armed Forces for large-scale warfare and enhancing logistical support.

A central element of this plan involves the potential establishment of a Turkish military base in Saudi Arabia, modeled after existing structures in Qatar. This is linked to the proposed Mecca Defense Agreement, which seeks cooperation between Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Pakistan in areas such as defense industries, military training, and intelligence sharing.

As the strategy evolves, reports indicate increased diplomatic activity involving Riyadh, Ankara, Islamabad, and Tehran. High-level officials have reportedly met in Tehran to discuss regional security, the Mecca Agreement, the situation in Yemen, and the future regional balance. Additionally, Turkey has considered plans for military unification in Libya to create a single army under a joint command.
