Turkey plans Moon mission and space weather center by 2027

As part of its National Space Program, Turkey is planning to send its first spacecraft to the Moon by 2027. According to the 2027 Presidential Annual Program, the country will also begin preparations next year to establish the Space Weather Application Center (UHUM).

The UHUM facility aims to monitor and model changes in space weather, which can impact satellite lifespans, communication, and navigation services. Monitoring space weather is critical because solar storms can disrupt terrestrial electrical grids and communication systems.

The initiative will be led by the Ministry of Industry and Technology, involving collaboration between the Turkish Space Agency, TÜBİTAK, and various universities to develop space technology infrastructure and foster international cooperation.
