Turkey political debate intensifies over new social integration law

Political tensions are rising in Turkey following the implementation of the ‘Law on Strengthening National Solidarity and Social Integration’. The law, passed by Parliament in August, has led to the formation of a Monitoring and Evaluation Board, which recently held its first meeting at the presidential complex. One of the newly established sub-commissions is focused on disarmament and strategic coordination.

DEM Party shared a handwritten message from PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, in which he characterized recent leaked meeting notes and documents circulating on social media as a ‘conspiracy’ by opponents of the process. Öcalan praised the political will shown by the President and Devlet Bahçeli, stating that the board's first meeting indicates the process is moving forward with steady steps.

In contrast, Ümit Özdağ, leader of the Zafer Party, criticized the legislative framework, describing it as one of the most severe threats in the history of the Republic. Özdağ argued that the government is attempting to legitimize a terrorist organization and make it a partner in state governance. He specifically criticized the role of Abdullah Öcalan, claiming he has been transformed into a ‘free political figure’ at İmralı who is being integrated into state management.
