Turkey postpones Secure Payment System for real estate to December 2026
The implementation of the Secure Payment System for real estate transactions in Turkey has been rescheduled to December 1, 2026. Originally expected to launch on October 1, the delay is intended to allow for technical improvements and the establishment of necessary infrastructure between banks and land registry offices.
The system is designed to protect both buyers and sellers by ensuring that funds are held in a secure, blocked account and only transferred to the seller once the title deed transfer is officially completed. This mechanism aims to mitigate risks such as fraud, incorrect IBAN entries, and the physical carrying of large amounts of cash.
Industry professionals have noted that while the delay provides time to address technical gaps, there are ongoing requests to the Ministry of Commerce and the Ministry of Finance regarding high title deed fees and exemptions from one-time value increase taxes to ensure the system's full effectiveness.
